About Beta Rho

Beta Rho Chapter was founded on June 2, 1973 when nineteen educators from Monroe County, Michigan were initiated into membership of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Michigan State Organization, Beta Rho Chapter. Our membership comprises women teachers who are retired or actively teaching and supervising. We are/were employed at all levels of education from K through college. Our monthly meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of the month at various locations around Monroe County. See our Calendar for the locations and times of our meetings.

Beta Rho is a member of the Cascade Council. This Council meets in November in Jackson, MI.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of women educators. The Society website can be found at: http://www.dkg.org/ The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Prospective members who evidence leadership qualities are invited to join. DKG membership is an honor and is offered by invitation from a local chapter. A candidate for membership must be employed as a professional educator at the time of her election; or retired from an educational position. Membership benefits are outlined in this downloadable membership document.

Service Projects

During the summer we contribute a meal for Holiday Camp, the local camp that services handicapped children. At Christmas, we select a charity to which we make a contribution.

Beta Rho endows a $300 scholarship for a student at Monroe County Community College.

Delta Kappa Gamma Purposes

  • To UNITE women educators of the world in a genuine spiritual fellowship.

  • To INITIATE, ENDORSE, and SUPPORT desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators.
  • To ENDOW scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators.
  • To STIMULATE the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action.
  • To INFORM the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in world society.
